  • It coordinats care for 35 medical specialties serving a population of three million people through the Réseau universitaire intégré de santé (RUIS).

  • It represents the principal practical and professional training in Quebec for the health disciplines : 6,000 students and trainees a year, across the health care disciplines and including more than half of all new Quebec doctors.

  • It employs 7,000 people including 700 doctors and treats 400,000 patients a year in its outpatient clinics and emergency room.

  • The organization focusses on health promotion and disease prevention, key means to better public health.

  • It is a centre for assessment and testing of new technologies, medications and health interventions and a showcase for the health care industry.

  • It is a $300-million hub of advanced technology, hosting the master electronic patient record, robotic medication dispensing and wireless medical imaging, and where a further $300-million investment in medical and information technology will be forthcoming.


The CHUM research centre is to be the most important health care research centre in Quebec The centre will be home to researchers, graduate students, technologists and administration for the six current research centre which will come together to form a world class hub of research expertise in the health sciences. The CRCHUM will be noteworthy for its exceptional basic research programs as well as for clinical research programs that extend our undersanding of new therapies and more effective approaches in treatment patients. The CRCHUM is a key economic driver in the strategy to develop and build the Quartier de la santé. The CRCHUM includes a team of 1,290 people:

    • 101 Ph.D. researchers

    • 118 M.Sc.

    • 101 Post doc and Fellows



  • 96 research coordinators

The scientific priorities of the CRCHUM are: • Cancer • Metabolic syndrome • Infection, immunity and inflammation • The neurosciences • Musculo-skeletal disease • Public heath: world health; health risk assessment, networks of care and services The CRCHUM is an exceptional space and place to conduct both basic and clinical research: • 46,500 m2 (500,000 square feet) located on the lot south of the CHUM and bounded by Saint-Antoine, Saint-Denis, Viger and Sanguinet Streets. • 110 research teams of 12 on average. The work areas can be configured and the equipment can be modified as a function of specific research projects and as new technology becomes available. • Six service platforms will be available and will be equipped with the latest technologies: • Animal testing and animal modeling • Imaging and biomedical engineering • Biology and cellular imaging • Bioinformatics • Genomics, transcriptomics, metabonomics et proteonics • Immune response assessment
